Keeping a journal has this neat way of telling our own story in a new way for ourselves when we go back and read it later. We recognize blessings we hadn’t realized before, we find inspiration to combat current challenges by the way we overcame previous ones (but had completely forgotten how it played out), we are able to see our own strength, courage, and faith, when it was hard for us to see it in the moment when we wrote it down. We can notice blessings, hidden talents, and the things that matter most in life. I used to be terrible about journaling because I thought I had nothing good or interesting to write. When I was a kid I had a small stack of empty journals that I received as gifts over the years but was saving until I had “something good to write”. (I still have a few I catch myself holding back on using!) Like this empty journal, I tend to save things for a “special occasion” far too often. I cheat myself, waiting for things to be “just right” or “better” or “just a bit more” before I can allow myself to enjoy life, capture it, and make it my own. I procrastinate my happiness waiting for better days, instead of making the most of my now until those better days actually arrive. “You pile up enough tomorrows, and you’ll find you’ve collected a lot of empty yesterdays.” ( – Meredith Wilson) Lately, I’ve been trying to capture and take in more of life, right here, right now, just as it is. If you look hard enough you can find beauty anywhere, even in our times of adversity. “Don’t save something only for a special occasion. Every day in your life is a special occasion.” ( -Thomas S. Monson) #choosejoy #couragetobehappynow #findjoyinthejourney #livepresently
