My Gardening Goals: Keep A Gardening Journal

*Record early spring weather and temperatures/month/day

*Record what and when you planted/ from seed/ start/ transplanted/ etc

*Record how many seeds per hole you planted and how many sprouted.

*Record when certain pests emerged

*Recording harvest/keeping track of how much comes out of the garden/weighing the produce, adding it all up.

*Get a Farmer’s Almanac!

My Gardening Goals – Learn To:

Garden planning.

Plant spacing.

Crop rotation.

Calculating amount of seed needed for garden.

How many seeds to plant per garden plant in each space.

Succession planting.

Stagger planting (plant some lettuce, some in two weeks…)

Organic gardening.

Site/garden preparation.

Intensive gardening practices.

Vertical/ pole gardening.

Know the climate zone/ what will grow here.

WHEN to plant WHICH garden plant/ how long it takes to grow and harvest/ how long it can stay alive through extended season.

Continual planting and harvesting.

Replanting from last harvest.

Seeds.

Composting, organic.

Mulching – organic mulch, covering garden bed with mulch can help keep weeds out.

Soil composition (loose, sandy or thick and full of clay, etc.,).

Strategically placing plants.

Consider rain/watering, sunlight (needs minimum 6-8 hours direct sunlight daily), seasonal temperature.

Greenhouse/winter gardening.

Seedlings for spring/seed starting trays (reusable).

Weeding garden/pest control (chicken can help with bugs but must be supervised or may eat garden).

Orchard ing (small scale), pruning, grafting – apples, cherries, pears, plums, peaches?, lemons? Or oranges?,

Vineyard ing (small scale) – grapes, olives?

Berries – strawberries, raspberries, marionberries/blackberries, blue berries, 

Beekeeping

Foraging? Plant recognition – eat/avoid.
